So long Sol, it's obvious, you won't miss us

Sol Trujillo, the CEO of Telstra for another month has left Australia already back into the safe loving arms of the Americans.
Supposedly Australians are racist, from Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, down to the lowliest bogan.

Trujillo has been the CEO of Telstra for a few years and has ran into the ground, service in regional areas has suffered whilst prices have gone up, yet he's walked away with 30 million dollars. When he announced his departure from the job, Kevin Rudd was quoted as saying "adios" (spanish for goodbye) Sol being of Mexican decent has seen this as a racial slur and in a recent BBC radio interview called the whole country "backward"

The Australian Federal Budget

So the budget has been handed down again and the two major immediate winners are pensioners and infrastructure.
Universities, Small Business and Parental leave also come out with a few positive outcomes but most of the policy is delayed or only short term.

*single aged pensioners will get $32.49 more a fortnight $10 if a couple
*Universities will get a large amount of funding and also in 2013 the Federal government will fund 50,000 more university places
*Large investment in transport and broadband infrastructure
*Tax breaks for small business
*18 week taxable parental leave starts in jan 2011

The only real loss apart from the 57 billion dollar deficit is the loss of the 30% health insurance rebate being cut from those whom earn over 120 000 a year.

*Malcolm Turnbull accused Kevin Rudd of being "hot headed" after a supposed incident over not having a hair dryer on his last trip to Afghanistan. Speaking of Turnbull, he announced rather pigishly that He and the Liberals will be ready whenever the Labor party are for the election. All getting rather childish in Canberra by the sounds of it, I expected him to be poking his tongue out after he said it as well.

*Death total from Swine Flu currently stands as being under 200, whilst the world wide hysteria kicks into overload and everyone uses alcohol hand sanitizer like Niles Crane from Frasier.

*Everyone learned that those in the Congo Army believe that sodomising Pygmies give supernatural powers

*In Australia the gender test for pregnant couples has been made available - which has struck fear into those hate filled right to lifers (who will gladly kill you if you ever mention the "A" word around them) saying that couples who find out the gender of their unborn child at 8 weeks will lead to more abortions.

*In Tasmania, it was found out that opposition leader Will Hodgman spent $13000 on his website - gee and I spend nothing for mine, he's really being ripped off

30% rebate loss hype – is it justified?

Rumors have begun circulating in the Australian media concerning what measures will be included in the Federal Budget next Tuesday night, the most predominant one is the axing of the 30% rebate on Private Medical Insurance.

Thing is, there will be conditions and an income test for the rebate put in place so those individuals who earn over $150 000 a year or families who earn over $240 000 a year will lose the rebate completely.

But that's the thing, if your family was earning $240 000 a year would you really have a problem paying an extra 30% for Private Medical Insurance?
Really, in all honesty???

As someone whom has spent the last couple years living on under $850 a month whilst at university and payed rent, bought food, paid phone, power and internet bills whilst still finding a bit of cash to save, one would imagine that a family on 240k or an individual on 150k a year would find the adjustment easy.
Maybe cut down on a few lattes or trips to the theatre?
and thats another thing the Private Insurers are running round going "OMG OMG OMG IF YOU DO THAT WE'LL HAVE TO PUT UP FEES TO COVER THOSE WHO CUT OFF THEIR INSURANCE!!!"
I say "Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft"
The private insurers are already making a bundle, and even if they do lose some business the only reason that put their fees up is for greed, nothing more.

Media Watch - 20 years of trying to tell the truth

On this day in 1989 a show called Media Watch screened on ABC in Australia for the first time. It sent a shiver down the spine of every dodgy newspaper editor, radio shock jock and shonky Current Affairs journalist in the country. Highly critical of blunders in the press, it has shown the other side to the story, most of the under handed dealings, such as John Laws and Alan Jones infamous cash for comment stoushes and pissing off the likes of Today Tonight and A Current Affair with a few laughs along the way.

Australia's Next Top Model or Bogan?

Last Night the second episode of Australia's Next Top Model was shown on FOX 8 and it got me to thinking...
Probably 3 of those girls actually have the dignity, grace and good looks to actually get anywhere in the modeling business. So why oh why is there a bunch complete and utter degenerative bogans there? Why not have people of quality on the show AND MAKE IT A REAL COMPETITION!
no, ratings are so much better for train wrecks aren't they?

One in particular, Cassie I believe her name is, spent last nights episode either crying, swearing, whinging and coming off as an idiot, and whilst her photo was good, her taste in clothing at judging WAS AWFUL! Others, whom their names escaped me acted like little shits towards to each other.

Here's an idea, next season get people who really want it, not people who are going to turn the show into a circus!

Swine Flu - Is it Just the Boy Crying Wolf?

So for the last fortnight the world has been swept up in the hysteria of that has come with H1N1 better known as Swine Flu. Whilst deaths have been restricted to Mexico, apart from one in the United States whom happened to be also Mexican, and only 1085 cases worldwide, one would wonder why there is such mass hysteria over the swine flu.
It is the height of fear mongering and stupidity the whirlwind that has swept the world called Swine Flu as annually approximately between 250 000 and 500 000 deaths are caused by seasonal influenza.
Why isn't there more done to combat that mortality rate instead a small outbreak that has killed under 200 in Mexico?
Whilst its help people remember to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer as well as not to sneeze all over everyone in there place of work or education, all that has happened over the last fortnight is MASS HYSTERIA

Even American President Barack Obama has come out and told everyone to calm down.

Ladies, Gents and Malcontents; We live in a world run on fear and finance and the last 2 weeks have shown us that.

I personally have renamed it to The Flying Swine Flu

Ok looking at random news stories from random places, it appears that a girl in Switzerland received an extra surprise in her McDonalds Happy Meal when she discovered that there was a condom in it. Swiss branch of McDonalds is not commenting until the investigation has been formalised.
Now that's a meal that comes with a happy ending

In Australia, Kevin Rudd, the countries Prime Minister has lost 5 % of his popularity according to a Newspoll. The reduction is popularity is most probably due to the recession and how one off "stimulus" payment scheme has not been as sucessful as first hoped. This comes off the back of yesterdays announcement about the 12 month delay on bringing in a carbon scheme and it's rejection by the senate.


And finally, something that will all non smokers and enjoyers of a healthy lifestyle, In China it was discovered that officials in a central Chinese province have to smoke 230 000 tobacco cigarettes annually that are made in the region or face being fined

Slightly Suspicious

CHaving to sit through Today Tonight which airs on Channel Seven is generally a pain in the ass, then tonight they aired a story about a website called "Freagle" on how you can earn big bucks by doing nothing.
It smell like a dirty scam.
So I have just had a look at the site, and to me it appears just to be that, a scam.
If something like this actually worked legitimately it would not have to be on a tabloid journalism television program flogging its wears.
Tut Tut Tut Channel Seven
Having to pay for a 30 day trial using a credit card also makes me highly suspect.

Whatever you do, never enter into something on the internet that smells fishy, coz if it looks too good to be true then it generally is a scam.

On that note, I have decided that writing an email to Today Tonight expressing my distaste and asking if the "story" was in fact a extended ad or not will help the malcontent in me feel slightly less disgruntled.

The Logies

Australia's answer to The Emmy's were held last night in Melbourne, and they were the Biggest sack of fail I have ever witnessed.
Now dear reader allow me to rant for a while.
First things first; you got a never was been in Gretel Kileen hosting the debarcle, a woman whom is annoying and smug and completely lacking comedic timing, trying to be funny, and failing miserably.
Then you have the awards itself.

WHY OH WHY DO WE LET THE TAMMY'S AND THE BOGANS SMS?
The three major television shows to win last night were Channel Nine's Underbelly, Channel Seven's Packed to the Rafters and Channel Ten's Rove.
Now, I bear no malice towards Underbelly or Rove, both are brilliant. Underbelly, whilst being highly explicit show sthe history of Victoria's gangland wars brilliantly, it was well written, well acted and deserves all accolades that come its way. Rove is Australia's best talk show/light entertainment show and always has a diverse range of guests.
However Packed to the Rafters, despite having a few good actors in Michael Caton and Rebecca Gibney, falls flat dreadfully.
The younger actors over act like it's the end of year play in Primary School and it's plot lines seem to be recycled plots from Home and Away and now defunct show Always Greener. It may have deserved "Most Popular Drama" but nothing more or less.
Rebecca Gibney walked away with the Gold Logie, which normally would not worry but, She actually had the majority of Launceston voting for her, through a campaign on the local radio station LA-FM.
Now for those who don't know, Gibney lives in Tamar Valley and is quite vocal about making sure there's no pulp mill built (which she should be applauded about) but also does a lot of promotional things for LA-FM
so it seems one hand gives the other a gold logie in Launceston today.

Whilst the ceremony was incredibly lack lustre there was four highlights

and Bill Collins, Australia's 'Mr Movies' finally being inducted in to the hall of fame
