and I'm back and pissed off

Ok I’m back
And I’m pissed off
VSU is causing it
For those who don’t know VSU is Voluntary Student Unionism and it sucks balls for everyone
Ok so it was pretty expensive for a uni student, but now it’s killing campus culture
I study at UTAS, our union is the TUU and when I first started in 2006, it was alright, the campus I went to held pretty much no social events though. Now in 2009, the place is dead 24/7. It’s like a ghost town. We all most lost the universities student produced quarterly magazine Togatus but we got it back thankfully

Now at the campus I study at still has a few events but it’s also dying off. But with it, it seems that the TUU and UTAS now wants to try every penny pinching exercise possible, and it seems that accommodation is their main target. Now to put things into perspective, if you live in a dorm owned by Melbourne uni (which is RIGHT in the Melbourne CBD) starts at $290 a week. which includes food
For a dorm room here starts $160 (food not included but is supplied and is priced between $43- $100 extra a week), the fear of your room being broken into and parties all night, every night but the plus side is internet and electricity also taken care of
For a room in a share house ran by the TUU between $80 and $200 - doesn’t include food, some do include electricity but most do not, comes with the possibility of slob housemates as well as fighting over bills, having to fork over shitloads of cash for bad internet connections through ISPs, maintenance been done at world record slow speeds and if you have a spare room, having people come through to look at it without notice.

Now in all honesty; where is the incentive for people to stay in Tasmania for university?
The campuses are dead
The accomadation is lack lustre, but you’re paying through the nose for it coz you know that if you go through a real estate agent it’s going to be like having your teeth pulled out through your ass.
What is a uni student to do?

Well a good solution for the unions would be look at how it would be possible to charge a fee, like societies day - you want to join a society? Well you have to member of the university union first, and I don’t mean hahaha u have to pay $250 up front, like have the price of a university membership at like $20.
How would that hurt I mean $20 from a student is better than NONE
Or what about doing a deal with UTAS to supply internet to all TUU houses for a bit extra in rent money, it would make it easier than dealing with ISPs
But what do I know?

the ebay blog

I like ebay.
It allows me to buy crap I never knew exsisted or wanted.
It also allows me to get excited about packages arriving in the mail.
It also allows me further down the track to sell the stuff that I no longer want without having to deal with (many) fuckwits which is also an enjoyable experience in itself.
You see, since I was about 10 every so often when my parents got sick of the amount things we had collected over a year we'd either have a garage sale or a stall at the market, where in which one has to deal with people knocking at your door at 5am on a saturday to ask if the garage sale had started yet or whether or not you accept $5 for something that was marked $40, and would most probably see later in the day on their market stall marked at $150.
Ladies and gentlemen, these people are what we call vultures.
They prey on the naive and stupid purely for profit and pleasure
and they piss me off.
So I have no resolved that ebay = not dealing with vultures
therefore making ebay a member of the awesome pile and getting vultures a place in the fail room

are Australians racist?

From the outside looking in Australia has had a dubious past with race and racial issues, begining with the treatment of Indigenous persons when The First Fleet arrived through until the 1970's when the white Australia policy was abolished to wednesday nights episode of Hey Hey it's Saturday where people blacked out their faces and act like the Jackson Five.
Let's face it, all countries have some form of racial bias no matter how hard they try to hide, Australia has always been bad at hiding it.
There's just a difference in how it has been handled.
A lot of people ignore it, others will be outraged and some will try to use the episode as tool to teach people not to be so inconsiderate of others.

There is good and bad in all societies
Please don't lump all of us together for what a select few people are doing

4WD/SUV's Piss me off

The reasons why they do annoy me so are
*They take up too much space
*Wankers drive them
*These same wankers have never left the suburbs
*These days it's more a sign of status ie the "Mine is bigger than yours so there"
*Too much CO2 emissions (thanks for speeding up climate change for us guys)
*can crush little cars and cause more severe injuries in a car accident (to the people in the little car of course)

they're just plain annoying and driven by pretentious idiots

meh

It's amazing how the weather can turn people into such assholes.
I almost got run over today crossing the street at the lights and the guy in the car wound the window and started yelling at me. I just kept walking, I'm not gonna be a punching bag for a wanker who can't be patient.
The girl at the supermarket just kept grunting and was in a foul mood. But she always seems to be.
But at least my neighbours have stopped blaring really bad techno at 2am

Is social networking killing your social life?

Has it really come to this?
Instead of formally inviting someone to something via a lovely hand written invitation that had to be sent a week before the actual occasion, has it really come to this?
2 hours before the actual event happening sending a mass invite on Facebook.
Gee how personal, that must've taken nano seconds to invite all 374 friends off facebook to your BBQ, I wonder if they'll all remember to bring a plate of food?
Hardly

So I rock up to this BBQ (and if you're wondering, no I didn't take a plate of food) to find that out of the 374 friends you invited via facebook only 5 have shown up, 3 of which, you live with.
Apparently Fall Out Boy were too busy to come to your BBQ.
I mean seriously, these days it seems even if it's a formal event a text message 3 days before the event is supposedly good enough.
Well not in my book!

The Blog about me

I thought I would take a break from talking about random things and talk about myself for once.
I'm a (almost) 23 year old female, trying to finishing my Arts degree at university.
About 18 months ago I almost died due to complications from a bladder infection that turned gangrenous. After spending some time in a coma I had to relearn how to walk, write and cope with what had happened.
I've had a shitload of surgery, and with still more to come it has made it difficult to study let alone have a job or anything like that.
So for me I blog because I want something to break up the boringness in my life.
Plus I enjoy sharing my opinon with randoms : P

Time to look at the fail room and the awesome pile

Today I’m bringing back my two favourite things
The awesome pile and the fail room.
(hopefully they will be back every Friday)
So lets start with the Fail Room

*My upstairs neighbours whom play techno music until 3am at least 3 times a week. Manners; they don’t have them.

*I know this is somewhat late but it’s still a fail, but Brynne Groden‘s dress at the brownlow. IT was just plain WRONG

*the Cheese and Vegemite concoctions new name of “iSnack 2.0” more like iFail 2.0. It was pulled off the shelves within four days.

*Gaiaonline.com’s lotto, where in which they’ll give you 2 of the 5 winning numbers if you pay 98c (american) just so you can win virtual gold.
Who said you can’t make money off nothing?
Also considering that site is PG 13, why is there gambling allowed?

The awesome pile

*Mao’s Last Dancer being released as a movie. A brilliant adaptation from the book. Well acted and shot.

* Steve o’s  (Jackass fame) campaign to stop frog dissection in schools

wireless broadband USBS and Australia

I'm here to discuss wireless USB's and Australia.
Why?
Because wireless internet makes life easier, with some companies cheaper and well I don't tangle myself in cords

Unfortunately for me I live 5 minutes out of Hobart CBD in Tasmania, which crosses Three network off my list. I am also told that whilst Dodo, Optus and Virgin are still sold in my state that there is hardly any coverage and where there is coverage it's pretty poor.
Vodafone and GRL network (a subsidary of Vodafone) have coverage where I live but there's huge blackspots and it quite enjoys dropping out atleast once an hour. That said quite quick when it works as well as economic.
Telstra has great coverage but the prices are sky high for example $30 for 225MB compared to $29 for 1.5GB with GRL, so not economical really for university students, unemployed or well anyone earning under 50k a year.
Lets face it.
Australia + internet = fail
